If you watch the movies, hitting rock bottom typically involves the losing of one’s spouse, getting in trouble with the law or an action that puts someone that they love in risk. The thing is, in real life rock bottom is not as definite of a situation. The truth is that rock bottom is a personal moment more than anything else. It is a moment where you recognize that things have gotten out of control and that you need to take control not just of your addiction, but also change yourself for the better. It’s a moment when you recognize that you don’t’ like the person you are, and that you need help to get yourself back to who you once respected. This is what Moral Reconation Therapy is meant to do: it helps you recognize what you have become and what you need to do to get back to where you want to be.

Moral Reconation Therapy is not an easy process, nor is it going to be fun for those who still don’t think they have a major problem. Because it makes you focus on your ego and your actions, it will paint you in a light that you aren’t going to be comfortable with. Being a 16-step project, it is also something that is going to take time, which may not be your goal when it comes to fighting your addiction. The thing is, time is what you need when you are looking to really kick your problems. You need to actually take the time to recognize your issues and what you have to work on in your life in order to get back on track.
